You may have heard that you should wait a year before seeing a fertility specialist- this isn’t always true! If you have irregular periods, known endometriosis, other gynecologic problems, or have a known sperm concern, schedule an appointment right away. If you are >35 years old or desire 2 or more children, meeting early with a fertility specialist is key so that you can plan for your family without having regrets. Empower yourself with knowledge! Appointments don’t commit you to any treatment plans, they simply allow you to gain information so you can decide what is right for you.
Yes! Our providers prefer to meet with you early in your journey, so that we can empower you with information about fertility and provide you personal data about your fertility through basic testing (such as blood work to look at egg reserve, ultrasound to confirm if your fallopian tubes are open and if your uterine cavity is normal, and/or semen analysis to confirm whether there are enough moving and normally-shaped sperm). For females or those with ovaries, fertility is highest with young eggs, and infertility and miscarriage increase with increasing ages. Empower yourself now with knowledge so that you can make the best choices for your future.
If you are between the ages of 28-38, and now is not the right time to start your family, make sure you understand your fertility and your biological clock! Schedule a consult with our providers to educate yourself about your specific ovarian reserve testing and how to best plan for your future. Fertility can’t always wait! Don’t have regrets later- empower yourself with knowledge now.
The doctors at NRM take into account your history when creating your plan for evaluation. Often, more than one factor often contributes to infertility. Therefore, it may make sense to complete the basic fertility evaluation prior to investing time and money into therapy, to ensure the best possible chances for success. Discuss with your physician the most cost-effective plan for you.

Most carriers don’t have a family history OR any symptoms of disease, therefore most people don’t know they are carriers until they undergo screening.
Being a carrier is not the same as having the disease. We all have two copies of each gene. Carriers have one gene with a mutation and one gene that works correctly. Carriers for some diseases are fairly common in the general population. For example, in a room of 30 people, chances are at least one person would be a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis.
Finding out if you or your partner are carriers of a disease is important information to help you plan your fertility therapy.
You may consider undergoing Pre-Implantation Genetic Testing to test for embryos that are not affected by the disease.Even if you wouldn’t manage your fertility care differently, some individuals find it helpful to know about their risks so they have time to prepare in case they have a child with a genetic disease.
NRM offers the use of a Gestational Carrier, meaning that the individual carrying the pregnancy has no genetic tie to the baby. As the patient and Intended Parent, you create an embryo either with your egg, a donor egg, your partner’s sperm, or a donor sperm — and that embryo can be placed into the uterus of a Gestational Carrier.
