Dr. Brown, President of the New England Fertility Society, Leads Fertility Conference
This weekend in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, at the historic Mount Washington Hotel, New England Fertility Society President Dr. Jennifer Brown will host over 150 professionals at the 17th Annual Meeting.
The program, entitled “Making History: Building the Future of Reproductive Technologies” is designed to take a look back at the origins of reproductive therapies in order to gain perspective as we move forward into the fascinating, ground-breaking technologies becoming available. A line-up of fantastic speakers will present the latest developments across reproductive endocrinology, from stem-cell use to genomic editing.
Of particular interest to patients, there will be presentations discussing more cost-effective, individualized, and patient-friendly IVF, advances in the embryology laboratory, environmental affects on fertility, and the use of supplements to boost fertility. A team of NRM’s physicians, nurses, embryologists, and medical assistants will attend the conference while another team stays home to take care of our patients.
The New England Fertility Society Celebrates it’s 30th Anniversary This Year!
The first IVF baby, Louise Brown, was born in 1978 and just 11 years later, doctors in Boston were working to understand the components that made IVF successful. A group of these professionals decided they needed to work across practices to tackle the new technologies and challenges together. Dr. Selwyn Oskowitz soon developed a vision for an open, inclusive society with a mission to share and disseminate data on human reproduction for science and for patients. At the time, even though the Society included members from Worcester and Maine, they elected to call it the Boston Fertility Society. Dr Oskowitz writes, “Boston connotes academia, leadership, revolution, and freedom. These were all the attributes then filling our veins at the sentient of IVF and the innovative technologies that were developing.” Now called the New England Fertility Society (NEFS) to represent its diverse group of members, the society again finds itself working together as we sit on the threshold of exciting and innovative technologies.
30 years later, the society continues to bring together a diverse group of professionals– including physicians, nurses, patient advocates, reproductive biologists, attorneys, naturopathic doctors, urologists, and embryologists– with the goal of shared progress in our field. 30 Presidents have led NEFS since 1989: 22 MDs, 5 PhDs, 2 RNC or NPs, and 1 CPA/ MBA. Most presidents have practiced in Massachusetts at the time of their Presidency, except Evelyn Neuber (Connecticut) and Judy Stern (New Hampshire).
